“This was clearly a monologue but you go ahead”
With an array of costumes and props to elevate their improv, including the sonic screwdriver and psychic paper, the show is performed in front of the iconic Blue Box and TARDIS console. It’s very impressive and a Doctor Who fan’s dream. It’s worth mentioning the audience couldn’t stop talking about the set while awaiting cast to enter the stage.
Lewis Dunn and Charlies Deane begin the show with impeccable comedic timing soon followed by Harry Whittaker (hosting tonight’s show) who changes roles fluidly while James Gamblin and Zach Sizer (hereby known as ‘Nina with the coffee addiction’) delight with accents and off-the-cuff remarks that make the audience roar with laughter.
Unfortunately, we’re let down by the chosen Doctor of the night, Louise Jones, who, at times, forgets her location and commits improv sin by not completing the “yes and” thrown at her. Merely repeating lines said by her troop back to them and the majority of her jokes landing flat.
A stand out of the show goes backstage to Nick Upton who provides live Radiophonic Workshop to match the action impeccably.
The concept and execution of “Any Suggestions Doctor?” is extraordinarily funny, it just depends on the strength of the improvisation of the night.
