Can someone review a show that they’ve been a guest on, who knows? But we were so blown away by the low-key brilliance of this free lunchtime comedy panel show, we couldn’t resist writing down a few words about our experience.
What’s in The Box? hosted by Friz Frizzle, is simple. Members of the audience bring items that form the basis of surreal and fiendish rounds. It’s then up to a panel of guests to interpret these sometimes bizarre offerings. For instance we had to relate stories of our childhood based around items such as google eyes, a skateboard wrench and a Now That’s What I Call Music album!
Follow guests Mark Grimshaw (Hit Me With Your Autistic) and Rachel Creeger (Pray it Forward) came up with great responses on the fly. The rhyming objects game was particularly inspired.
It’s a lovely little show, as fully formed as any format you’d hear on BBC Radio 4 – it had a real I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue vibe, but with a few more f-bombs thrown in.
