Alice-India has created a show that is simultaneously goofy and sincere. It is earnest and vulnerable like the performer has carved a part of himself and put it on the stage. And it is funny. The humour is not self deprecating or cheap. It comes from character work, sharp observations and fast paced ADHD fuelled story telling.
The show is driven by the secret of why Alice-India was arrested, so close to their ADHD/Autism diagnosis. This reveal is held carefully throughout the show and its release provides the fuel for an honest and open conversation about what happens when invisible disabilities are forced into the light.
The use of humour as a tool to put the audience at ease, relax us and endear us to Alice-India makes the ending so much more of a gut punch. This is a carefully crafted show that is greater than the sum of its parts.
