“What I’m trying to say is, don’t look at the disability, look inside.” – Benny Shakes.
Blue Badge Bunch takes the shape of a gameshow and promises a family fun experience where each contestant has the ability to learn in a safe, comfortable and inclusive environment about different types of disability.
Our host, Benny Shakes, introduces us to the concept with ease whilst explaining more about his condition of Cerebral palsy (CP). Shakes is later joined by his guest, comedian Simon Jay who chats to the audience in a colloquial manner about being autistic.
Both have the natural instinct to fill the stage with encouragement, honesty and positivity whilst they answer burning questions.
Throughout the show, we’re treated to several delightful rounds and time challenges, each tailored to a separate disability.
From chronic pain to visual impairment and education on how to understand an ACC machine, Shakes holds the attention of his audience and not just because of his extensive array of fun props!
Complete with BSL interpretation from Sarah, the show is inclusive, educational, encouraging and a wonderful introduction to the many forms disability takes for children and adults alike. Benny Shakes and Mark Nicholas have created a mighty show which needs to be seen by many. With the promise of new developments to the gameshow, I look forward to seeing the BBB go far!
