Davidt Dunlop – Exquisite Corpse

Davidt Dunlop – Exquisite Corpse

★ ★ ★ ★

Bounce Festivals very own artist in residence Davidt Dunlop has purposefully forgone the traditional route of what is expected of a visiting artist. ‘I didn’t want to be sitting in the corner, drawing, looking unapproachable, thinking people will come up and talk, because they don’t.’ Dunlop explained between his excitable scurrying from patron to patron, encouraging them to get involved in his participation art game.

It is in-keeping with the whole ethos of Bounce, that Dunlop has created something that is entirely accessible. There is a set structure, you can do as much or as little as you like, and you get to be part of a big group art project.

Exquisite Corpse is a game invented by Surrealist artists in the 1920’s. You’ve probably played a similar game where you draw the head on the top of a piece of paper, fold it over and give to your friend to draw the torso, fold over etc. etc.

Dunlop has offered the festival something original, fun and engaging. It was delightful to see everyone joining in, drawing their respective body-parts; getting to talk to the artist and share in his vision. Go and add your drawing before the residency ends.

Davidt Dunlop, Crescent Arts Centre, 12:00 – 6pm daily, (8th & 9th October) Free
